HERCUTEC Cyclopentane (C₅H₁₂)

Cyclopentane – our third isomer in the successful trio of pentanes – is also a colorless and highly volatile liquid. With the molecular formula C5H10, however, it differs from isopentane and n-pentane. Its boiling point of 49 °C is somewhat higher than that of the other two isomers. Nevertheless, cyclopentane is a highly flammable substance, so it must be handled properly.

Cyclopentane can be mixed with most organic solvents, but is practically insoluble in water. The petroleum-derived hydrocarbon is used primarily as a solvent for organic substances and as a foam blowing agent.
